PROJECT INTRODUCTION
The Chibuto Solar Power Plant is a structuring project in the field of renewable energy, promoted by SAL Energia, Lda., in a strategic partnership with Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM). This initiative is part of the national effort to expand energy capacity based on clean and sustainable sources, aligning with the priorities defined by the Government of Mozambique regarding the diversification of the energy matrix and the goal of universal electrification by 2030.
The project contemplates the construction and operation of a large scale photovoltaic solar power plant, with an installed capacity of 95 MWac, equivalent to 112 MWp in direct current (DC). The infrastructure will be implemented in the Gaza province, specifically in the Chibuto district, covering areas located in the localities of Canhavano and Godide areas selected for their technical viability, exceptional solar conditions and proximity to the existing grid infrastructure.
The generated electricity will be transmitted to the National Electricity Grid through two high voltage transmission lines (275 kV), with a total length of approximately 10 kilometres, ensuring efficient interconnection between the plant and the Chibuto Substation, currently in an advanced stage of construction.
Designed with an integrated and multidisciplinary approach, the project incorporates technical, environmental, social and economic dimensions, guaranteeing compliance with national legal and regulatory requirements, as well as international best practices regarding responsible resource management, environmental performance and social responsibility. The Chibuto Solar Power Plant therefore represents an investment of high strategic impact, with the potential to significantly reinforce the country's installed capacity, promote the stability of the national energy system and catalyse the economic development of the southern region of Mozambique.

The choice of Canhavano and Godide unites exceptional solar irradiation (>5 kWh/m²/day), flat topography and direct proximity to the high-voltage national grid.
The Chibuto Power Plant Project's primary objectives are to increase energy generation capacity in the Southern region, meeting growing demand for electricity, and promoting the energy transition, aligned with the National Energy Transition Strategy approved by the Council of Ministers.
This strategy aims to promote clean and renewable energies, reducing dependence on fossil energy sources and consequently diminishing the negative impacts caused by CO2 emissions. In this way, we actively support national and global efforts to combat climate change.
